Propecia Question, Would like an answer from personal experience?

Hello, I’ve been on propecia for about 2 weeks and have noticed a substantial increase in shedding. Has anyone else had this same issue or is the drug not working correctly for me? I called propecia and they said that it was not a common occurrence (not sure how knowledgeable he actually was)….should I discontinue the drug? Please Help!

Answer:

most hair loss treatments have whats known as a “shedding phase”. Where hair that was coming out anyway falls out quicker to make room for newer healthier hair

Does anyone know of a trustworthy site that I can order Propecia from?

My hairline is starting to recede pretty bad and I want to do something about it. Unfortunately I do not have health insurance so I don’t have a doctor I can get them through. Do any of you know of a site that’s safe and secure that I can order propecia from? Thank you!

Does Rogaine work? How about Propecia?

I’m 19 years old and already showing signs of baldness. I’ve contemplated suicide but I figure either Rogaine or Propecia might be a better option. Do you know anyone who it’s worked for?

Another option I’m considering is hair transplants – thoughts?

Answer:

Go to a salon and ask them for a bottle of Nioxxin. If that doesn’t work you can try rogaine, you’re too young to use propecia. If all of that fails, make sure to thank your parents in your suicide note since it’s purely genetic.

Hair transplants can go really badly if you go to the right people, and remember your hairline is only gonna keep moving so you’ll have to keep getting more as you continue to lose hair.

Oh yeah… and don’t wear hats all the time.

I’m starting to get male pattern baldness (it’s receding). My dermatologist recommended rogaine and propecia.?

But this stuff is expensive (/month for propecia and not sure about the rogaine). No guarantees that it will work. What do I do? Do I take the pills and use the foam? Or do I just let nature run its course?

Knock on wood, not yet losing hair on the back of my head or the center of my head. Just at the temples.

Answer:

I’ve had excellent retention and regrowth with the Rogaine foam on my hairline…I’ve also added Nizoral 2% (prescription strength, available on Amazon.com from Canada). Nizoral has been clinically shown to reduce DHT in the scalp which causes hairloss

I understand adding Propecia to the mix is extremely powerful as well, but I felt a lot of side effects (most people don’t)…if you can take it, you might consider taking it…just consider it like another bill. Rogaine foam is only like 40 bucks for 3 months….and nizorals cheap too

Answer:

Suicide.. Yikes – please don’t.

Propecia/Proscar is worth a shot! I am in my mid-20′s and am using it as well, with favourable results thus far. (I use nizoral shampoo as well)

Rogaine – I have not used.. but figure this may come as a backup plan in a year..

As for people it’s worked for – the reason I am taking it, is because one of my previous GP’s had great success with it.

The fact that you are trying to educate yourself at such an early stage is good. because Propecia, while it may not grow hair BACK for many people, it does seem very effective in maintaining the level you have.

Talk to your doctor about it. They hear it all the time.

Oh – and as for hair transplants – I’d say you are too young for them – in the sense that, moving hair now, will create a need for numerous treatments as your baldness evolves.

My best suggestion would to be to try out your first 2 options, if those don’t work, then perhaps evaluate it as a last option.

Minoxidil and Propecia for hair loss?

Hi, I’m asking a question for my dad cause he’s not too good on computers. His hair has been thinning and he has been losing his hair for about 6 years. It’s not too bad. Really just the front sides, about an inch and a half up on each side. He has been on Minoxidil for about three years. At first it worked great. He grew some hairs back and it stopped the hair loss a lot. But the hairs he grew back were very tiny and aren’t covering the spots as well as he wants them to. So his doc just put him on Propecia and he started yesterday. He wants to know if he stops the minoxidil will he lose all that hair, or because he is now on propecia will it all stay? Or would it just be good to stick with both? So basically the question is this: Just take Propecia? Or use both Propecia and Minoxidil? Thanks.

Answer:

Minoxidil and Propecia works on different receptors in the brain. Both promote hair growth, or rather, both help decreases hair loss and possibly promote hair growth.

The advantage of Minoxidil is that it is topical – so less side effect. Propecia is expensive. They both works somewhat, so using both of them would give more hair growing/less hair loss effect than using either alone.

I would use both Minoxidil and Propecia together.

Is it a big deal if I forget to take Propecia one day?

I have been taking Propecia for about a month now and have been pretty good about remembering to take it every day. I forgot to take it last night and am wondering what the effect is of one day without it. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Answer:

There are no side effects to missing it for a day. Just dont do it often or you will not be getting what you paid for,,,, your hair. Propecia takes somtimes up to 6 months to even start working. After taking it for that long you may notice some hair growth, More then likely you will just notice that you are no longer losing your hair as fast. If you stop propecia it will take about 6 months for the newly grown hair to fall out. This is because of the cycles of hair growth that occur in all of us.

I have a question about propecia?

I was wondering if propecia will reverse miniaturization? i have these fine hairs on the crown and some on the hairline and I was wondering if taking propecia will bring it back to its former thickness, and improve overall quality of the hair follicle…thanks

Answer:

its supposed to . i really don’t know BALD AND DON’T CARE

Is it ok to take propecia and use nioxin shampoo/conditioner?

I’ve been on Propecia for going on two years (I’m 23 btw) and I recently stopped for about three weeks because of the way it affects concentration, focus, etc. Anyways I started losing my hair a lot since I stopped so I started again today. My barber reccommened I try Nioxin and since its much cheaper and not a prescription drug I would be much happier using that, But until I know if it works is it safe to use the two (Propecia/Nioxin) together?

Answer:

I would think so, but just contact your doctor or even a pharmacist to make sure.

Do I need to get a prescription for propecia?

and if so how do I go about doing it, do i have to see a doctor?

Answer:

Yes, you do, and probably need to see your doctor to have a prostate exam done before he will even think about prescribing it to make sure that the treatment is appropriate.

…but if you are a victim of male pattern baldness you will still need a prescription – minus the prostate exam.
